How to Start the Daily Office This Week
A simple, realistic guide for beginning daily prayer using the 2019 Book of Common Prayer. This guide goes well with the video series we put together, found on our YouTube page.
What Is the Daily Office?
The Daily Office is the Church’s pattern of praying Scripture and set prayers at regular times throughout the day. It is not about praying perfectly or praying everything—it is about letting God shape us over time through faithful, ordinary prayer.
A Simple Plan for This Week
· Morning Prayer (2–3 days): Begin the day with Scripture and praise.
· Midday Prayer (optional): A brief pause to re-center your heart.
· Evening Prayer or Compline (2–3 days): End the day with thanksgiving and trust.
How to Pray the Office (Keep It Simple)
· Choose the prayer time that best fits your life right now.
· Use the shortened options—this is encouraged.
· Read the Scripture slowly; don’t rush.
· If you miss a day, simply begin again.
What You’ll Need
· A 2019 Book of Common Prayer (print or digital, also see the Daily Office Online)
· A Bible
· A quiet place (but not necessarily a perfect one)
· Five to fifteen minutes
A Final Encouragement
The Daily Office is not a test of discipline or devotion. It is an invitation to show up, day by day, and be formed by God’s Word and the Church’s prayer. Begin where you are. Pray what you can. Trust that God is at work.
