Prayers for The Practice of Chalking of the Door.

A simple liturgy for individuals, families, or life groups to use for the blessing of a home, commonly referred to as “The Chalking of the Doors.” This takes place at the front door of a home.

Leader:
Peace be to this house, and to all who dwell in it.

All:
And peace be to all who enter here.

Leader:
The Word was made flesh,
All:
And dwelt among us.

Leader:
Let us pray.

Almighty and everlasting God,
who revealed thy Son to the nations
by the leading of a star:
Grant that we who know thee now by faith
may at last behold thy glory face to face;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Leader:
As the Magi rejoiced to enter the house
where the child Christ was found,
so may Christ dwell with us, bless us,
and make this home a place of peace,
hospitality, and light.

All:
Lord Jesus Christ, be known among us.

The leader writes the inscription above or in the corner of the door:
20 ✝ C ✝ M ✝ B ✝ 26

(C, M, B, stand for Christus mansionem benedicat. This is Latin for Christ bless this house.)

Leader:
These letters stand as a sign of our prayer:
May Christ bless this dwelling.

Leader:
Let us pray.

O Lord our God,
bless this home and all who live here.
Grant us faithfulness in prayer,
generosity in welcome,
patience in trial,
and joy in thy presence;
that Christ may be honored in our words and works,
now and throughout the coming year.
Amen.

All:
The Lord bless us and keep us;
the Lord make his face to shine upon us
and be gracious unto us;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon us,
and give us peace. Amen.
