Those Who Have Ears: Hearing the Word of the Kingdom

Sermon - 07.12.26 - Libbon

This morning’s text from Scripture is:

Sermon Outline:

Jesus begins His teaching on the Kingdom by telling a story that leaves everyone confused until He explains it Himself. The Parable of the Sower is less about identifying four different kinds of people than recognizing the different ways God's Word encounters our own hearts. Rather than labeling ourselves or others, Jesus calls us to become receptive soil that bears lasting fruit continually. The Christian life begins and grows through learning to hear the Word with attentive hearts.

  1. Why Jesus teaches in parables

  2. What the four soils reveal about our hearts

  3. How we learn to truly hear the Word

  4. Hearing Christ through Scripture, worship, and the sacraments.
